What iPod should I buy? The iPod you buy depends on your needs and what you intend to use it for. Also, if you have size constraints, e.g. you want the unit to be as small as possible, this may limit the iPod choices available to you. For starters, we recommend the iPod nano as a great way to get started with the portable digital music revolution. The nano fits in the palm of your hand making it highly portable. It stores up to 1,000 songs (in the 4 GB model) and is available in both the 4 GB and 2 GB models. The 2 GB model will hold up to about 500 songs. The nano also has the ability to store pictures, podcasts and audio books, and will connect directly with iTunes, a music download service from Apple. The iPod nano can be had for under $200. If you're looking to store and view video with your iPod, you will need to get the original iPod which is available in much larger 30 GB and 60 GB models. The 30 GB model runs about $300. If your looking for the smallest, most affordable iPod, the iPod shuffle is the way to go. The shuffle is the smallest of the iPods and available in both 512 MB and 1 GB models. The shuffle can be found at under $100 and even the 512 MB model will hold up to 120 songs and play for 12 hours. If your budget is small, the iPod shuffle is the way to go. What about the iPod mini and iPod photo? The iPod mini and iPod photo are older iPod models that are not currently manufactured. The only iPods currently manufactured are the iPod, the iPod nano, and the iPod shuffle, along with a handful of accessories for each. How is the iPod powered? The iPod is powered by a rechargeable battery. Various adapters are available to power the iPod by other means, for example, your car's cigarette lighter. How can I find an iPod replacement battery? iPod battery replacement has been an issue of controversy due to high cost charged by Apple for a replacement/refurbishment of the iPod battery. Actually, Apple directly offers a $59 replacement program where they will actually send you a new or refurbished iPod rather than actually replacing the battery of your iPod. This service is available both online at Apple's website and at Apple retail locations. Alternatively, there are places online that offer replacement kits. We have not reviewed these iPod battery replacement kits, so we can not offer recommendations or suggestions at this time, however, most online offerings of this are generally priced at about $30. Not sure what to buy or where to begin? Confused by all the iPod offerings? Below is a list of the most popular iPod items from Apple available today. The list is updated daily. This should help set you on your way. |
